A couple is coming out of retirement to build a large winery that’s all “about connection.”

Teresa and Joel Poppen are preparing to launch Gem 73 Winery in Sunnyslope this summer. The multi-year project is a result of their long-time passion for wine.

The 15,500-square-foot winery is being built at 21254 Chalk Hills Lane in Caldwell, and the Poppens are targeting to open the tasting room and space in June.

“We’re really focused on bringing people a third space where they can just relax and enjoy,” Joel said. “Enjoy being with people. Enjoy experiences that we’ll put together around the winery and out in the vineyard.”
